“Better a witty fool than a foolish wit.” So said the Bard. I have no patience for those who don’t, or can’t, rise to the occasion with a good rejoinder when the gauntlet is thrown. The exchange of bons mots is a form of play for thinking adults, and those who are good at it, who can call themselves accomplished flirts, who are agile enough to harness quick mental reflexes into polished verbal display, hold my admiration - excellent punners I revere above all. Flirtation is simply practice toward improving ones wit, a muscle like any other that must be exercised to achieve its full potential.
